An Italian MP has asked his girlfriend to marry during a parliament debate on post-earthquake reconstruction.
A member of the far-right party, 33-year-old Flavio de Moro, applied as MPs prepared to vote on measures to help earthquake-stricken central Italy in 2016 .
"We, the businessmen, are busy every day with national emergencies, every day, we are busy with political discussions.
We often neglect real values, we neglect people who care about us, and those we love, " De Moreau said after receiving permission to take the floor .
"As you can see, today is a special day for me," he said.
Then he turned his attention to his sweetheart, Eliza de Leo, who was sitting upstairs and asked her, "Eliza, will you marry me? "
The announcement was followed by applause from the deputies, but the session's chairman, Roberto Fico, seemed less enthusiastic and rebuked De Moro .
At first it was unclear whether Eliza had accepted, but after the vote, De Moreau preached to the press: "She said yes.
